It didn’t take long for the other shoe to drop Tuesday.
The Edmonton Oilers made their NHL trade deadline splash on Tuesday, acquiring defenseman Mattias Ekholm from the Predators, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski, in a deal that includes defenseman Tyson Barrie going to Nashville.
Veteran defenseman Luke Schenn, 33, a 6-foot-2, 227-pound top-six option who can do more than just play a physical game and has two Stanley Cup titles on his resume, was dealt from the Vancouver Canucks to the new-look Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
The Maple Leafs traded Rasmus Sandin to Washington for fellow defenceman Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round draft pick on Tuesday. Toronto also dealt forward Pierre Engvall to the New York Islanders and acquired rearguard Luke Schenn from Vancouver.
