The Vancouver Whitecaps opened defence of their Canadian Championship title with a 4-1 quarterfinal victory over York United FC on Wednesday, a result that means the road to the Voyageurs Cup now goes through B.C. for them.

A brawl broke out during Tuesday’s Canadian Championship game between Toronto FC and CF Montreal at BMO Field. CF Montreal has decided to close the visitors’ fan section when the two teams meet again at Saputo Stadium on Saturday.
“The incidents that occurred on Tuesday night in Toronto are unfortunate and unacceptable,” the team says.
Nigerian forward Chinonso Offor scored the winning goal in the 39th minute and CF Montreal held on to defeat Toronto FC 2-1 in Canadian Championship quarterfinal play Tuesday in Toronto.
Vancouver won the tournament last season, beating Toronto FC 5-3 on penalties with Andres Cubas bagging the winning spot kick.
